Looking for some recommendations for a 45 ACP. I want a home defense/ range pistol. Don't think for carry because I know this will be a large gun. Not overly concerned about recoil as I've shot 1911's and full load .357's with no issue. I am concerned about grip size, though. Largest I currently own are CZ 75 and S&W 686 revolver. That's the tough part now because my local stores are wiped clean and that's the only way to be sure. I'm looking for ideas, though. I like CZ's so a 97BD is in the mix. Appreciate any other thoughts.

OK not quite sure if you really like the size of the CZ grip. If you've shot 1911s and get along with them, you have the option of either a single stack or a double stack. You can also buy them either flat main spring housing or arched mainspring housing which gives you something closer to the 75 grip.

Personally I don't care for CZs or the Bren 10 (yes I've shot one). CZ owns Dan Wesson and the funny thing about it is Dan Wesson 1911 owners love their pistols faithfully, but not so much the CZs, this is a quality issue.

With the 1911s you have a staggering amount of options to look at.

Yeah, I got to hold a CZ97. Grip is way too big for my hands. I also got to look at a HK45 and a FNX45. Between those two I like the feel of the FN better. Should have mentioned that I am a lefty. I already own a couple of 1911's. A S&W E-series, Springfield TRP and Springfield EMP4(kinda a 1911). I did have a DW Specialist but the LGS finally took it back after four trips back to DW. Magazines kept jamming & would not release and also would not let the slide cycle. their final response was that I was inserting them too rough and I should just try to ease them in. I thought I bought a combat/self defense pistol! Shame.

Congratulations, you've joined the ranks of a small number of people that didn't get along with a DW. Nope, don't have one and I am not paid by DW.

I got a RO Champion recently in 9mm yo try it inexpensively instead of taking the abuse of a LWC in 45acp. I carried one for a lot of years, but my brother borrowed it, never got it back and after all the 45acp competition I've done and at my age, I finally tried a 9mm. For the past 4 months I've pretty well been shooting the heck out of it. I really enjoy it. Not as accurate as 45acp 5", but just fun to shoot. I did swap out the ignition system since I won't tolerate MIM and the hammer is cast.

Screw it. Buy a Dillon and shoot the TRP more. Since I'm working reserves from time to time and they're 9mm, I'm about to buy a Ronin in 9mm. It'll get tuned and checkered.

Edit: the one reason I'm not considering a DW, is because all the guys I know of shoot ball. In 45acp I detest hardball, 200 grain SWCs are far more accurate and I have no idea how DWs work with SWCs
