Hi all, Questions! Will a barrel blank with a 1.200 O.D. have enough meat to be threaded into a Savage 110 action? Has anyone had any expirence with the Midway replacement barrels for the Savage rifles? I am thinking of changing a old 25/06 to a 6.5X55. I don't shoot a 25/06 and have always wanted a 6.5X55 or a 6.5-284. All help will be appreciated.

The current Midway on line store has an Adams and Bennet 6.5 X 55 barrel that is specifically made for the Savage 110. It cost $139.99 and will fit perfectly (#160311). All you neeed is the lock ring tool (#288765) and a headspace guage, and you can do it in a jiffy.

The 110s are very easy to install and headspace as the headspacing is controlled by the lock ring, NOT the barrel threads. The 6.5X55 is a great choice, as it is easily reamed to 6.5 - 284 or 6.5 - 06.

Of course A&B will make you a 6.5 - 284 for the 110 application for a few $ more. If you go that route get a 1 in 8 or 1 in 7.5 inch twist, as the standard offering is 1 in 9 and possibly problematic for the 160 gr bullets. The fast twist 6.5 - 284 has dominated the 1000 yard bench rest competition.

On the other hand, the 6.5X55 with full pressure handloads is ony 100 fps behind the 6.5 - 284 and good for everything up through elk. In addition the 6.5X55 case specs are as strong as they get, which is an advantage for the handloader.

Loader,
Thanks, for the info. A small gun shop in my area has a large amont of match 6.5X55 ammo in battle packs. Price is right and it is non-cro to boot.
Sorry for being so slow but my computer was down.
Thanks again.
