Howdy,

I have a used Savage Mark II that I am trying to accurize. Any help that I can get would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to know more about barrel tuning. I've read that tuning near the reciever is best, but could use some feeback. Is basic accurizing the same across the board with minor changes due to maufacturer? The receiver is already glass bedded, and the barrel free floated. I have been making minor changes to the stock for a better fit. I'd like to make most if any changes before I start applying the finish.

Thanks,

Since this is in the rimfire section I'd assume that is what your MKII is. Just a question first, have you tried different types of ammo? Many rimfires have a specific taste for certain rounds.

Howdy,

I bought the gun used, and yes it is a .22, but had fired it before and it shot well with one type of ammo. At $16 a box of 50 I am trying to find another ammo that this rifle will shoot as well. The previous owner had stuck a lot of junk on it and after removing all that I have holes to fill in the forearm, had to reshape the cheek piece, etc. I'm ordering a one pc. scope mount for a new scope that I just bought. I've been reading about accurizing tips on several web sites and this was one that is supposed to work well with various types of ammo. Frankly, had I known just how much he butchered this stock I would have passed on it. Now that I am in for some cash that I can't recoup unless I fix what he messed up I'd like to try to save the gun and shoot it in local competition. But w/o breaking the bank for ammo.:)

Thanks,
