Hey guys new to the forum need some advice for scope rings for my newest purchase a tikka t3 300 win mag. I'm looking at the dnz game reaper mounts and buying a nikon monarch 4-16x42 I'm wondering if I can use low mounts or if I have to get the medium mounts. I have it figured out to be about .04 in of clearance from bell to barrel is that enough? Any help is appreciated thanks

The regular cover that comes with the Nikon might not fit either. Other than that I have two of the DNZ Game Reapers and like them, the one thing I noticed is since they have just one screw on each side of the scope ring tops I've had to tighten them a little tighter than the Talley 1 piece scope mount I have on another rifle, it has two on each side like their 2 piece lightweight rings. The DNZ is also a tad bit higher where the extra high vs extra high goes, not sure if they all are like that where the low,, medium, and high ones are concerned though. Welcome to the forum !!

From what I have read the tikka mounts aren't very good. Wouldn't want to take a risk with my glass
I use the mounts that come with the Tikka! I think they're great! They line up perfectly every time and I have A pretty nice Burris Signature Series scope on one and Leaupold VX-III on another. Never had a problem never felt as if I needed to go to the extra expense of buying something else. Fits my 42mm objectives just fine!

Scope mounts

+1 on the dnz's the base & rings are 1 piece, much easier to install, light, strong, almost impossible to mess up the install. Call DNZ tell them the gun & scope they will tell you which height/mdl you need. Just try to but them from Amazon/ optics planet/ e-bay, it will save app 10$

My son would agree as he has em on his 300 WSM and shoots it very well as does the granddaughter w/ slightly downloaded ammo.

She shot elk at 180 yrds, twice, it was probably dead after the first. Since I have loaded the ammo what's another pop??

I have two Tikka's both and came with mounts. How good or bad they are, I can't say. I picked the first set up, looked at it, and dropped them in the pile with all the other stuff I will probably never use, and installed the Leupold mounts I have on most of my other rifles.

I also think the low profile mounts will put you too close to the barrel. I know I had to use the mediums on mine for enough clearance to install flip open covers.

Rex what caliber are you using with the stock rings?

Nacho yes I found them on eBay for a steal of a deal
Sorry I missed this question. I am currently shooting 308 and 7mm-08 without a single problem. Previously I was shooting a 300wsm with the factory mounts with 180's at 3015fps and getting sub moa accuracy and never a problem. I really liked the set up! Factory mounts help keep it lightweight, mounts were very strong, with perfect alignment without any lapping or fitting. Very little adjustment while sighting in the gun!

You're causing me to bring back some memories of that rifle! A buddy of mine talked me out of it and I still have regrets! :( He's still got it and brags about what a great and accurate rifle it is and so easy to carry and quick to the shoulder! LOL!

Oh btw the way that Monarch is pretty long compared to what I was putting on them. You shouldn't have a problem with the factory mount. - You can always give them a try (it's free) and if you decide to go a different route buy something else later! -I really don't think you have an issue!

Well after all your guys help and talking to dnz I ended up going with the medium height game reaper mounts since I really like the idea of one piece mounts better. Thank you all for your help and input.

Rex that's why no matter if I shoot the gun or not anymore I wouldn't ever sell any of mine... Never know when you might what to send a few rounds rounds down range with it ;)

Unfortunately a listen I seem to keep "relearning" every time I get rid of one!
