There seems to be quite a few new shooters in the house, so I would like to recommend a great little book. It was written by the late, great Jack O'Connor and titled Rifle and Shotgun Shooting Basics. Published by Outdoor Life it is all of 40 pages thick and is replete with drawings, diagrams, and pretty pictures. Mine is from the Third Printing, 1986. If you can find it, you'll want to have it. Jack himself graces the cover.

Ditto. Really, anything by Jack O'Connor is worthy of a read. Many do not like that fact that he was a huge proponent of the now seemingly "small bore" .270. He does, however, explain concepts and techniques well, and can easily take a willing beginner into many realms of experience through the course of a book. Rifle and Shotgun Shooting Basics is an especially good one, however, along with his famous classic, The Rifle Book.
