I would like to put together a spreadsheet of the various cartridges we all use in the Contender, Encore, XP-100, Wichita, etc. I will compile the data and make it available, once the sample size is big enough.

Please let me know which Make/Action, Cartridge, Load and Target/Game your single-shot pistols are used for, in the following format:

Make/Action - Cartridge - Factory/handload - Target/Game hunted

T/C Contender - 44Magnum - 240gr XTP HL - Deer, wild hogs
T/C Contender - 6.5JDJ - 120gr BT HL - Deer, varmints
T/C Contender - 30Herrett - 125gr BT HL - Deer, target/fun
T/C Contender - 7-30Waters - 140gr BT HL - Deer, wild hogs

T/C Encore - 260Rem. - 120gr BR HL - Deer, target/fun

Thanks in advance to any who choose to participate!

Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping if we get enough folks to post with what they own/use, we'll be able to help new people, or those with questions about which cartridge is ideal for their particular needs.

Is this really all we have from guys shooting single-shot pistols, or was this just a lame idea for a thread?

well i've got...

t/c encore .223 50gr handloads, target/varmint
t/c encore 7/08 120-154gr handloads, varmint, deer/pronghorn & target
t/c encore 45 colt (15", NO .410) 250gr fxt, deer/pronghorn

just today i dropped off the 7/08 bbl. at the local smith's to machine the chamber so that i can use either 307 or 444 brass to make a "rimmed 7/08"

on the "list"... either a 260 or 6.5x55 15'', a 375 winchester and a 25/35AI. i've got so many 6.5 component bullets and brass on hand that i can easily justify picking up a bbl. i've admired the 375 win for as long as i can remember and i just can't escape the feeling that a 25/35AI with a 117gr hornady btsp would be a wonderfull deer & pronghorn cartridge.

Thanks for the latest submissions. That makes a total of 29 entries, so far. Anybody else?

Fred, how do you like the .41GNR II ? I shoot a 358GNR, but it is out of a 22" H&R frame.

I like it a lot. It is very accurate, will do 5 shots in an inch at 100 yards. Brass is made from .445 Super Mag. I believe I am using 30 grains of 296 under a 210 XTP as per Gary. Took one buck with it, chest cavity was full of chum! Gary correctly recommended his brake. I call the gun the dragon's breath. A moment after you fire it a soft puff of warm exhaust caresses your face. Hearing protection is a must!

The 358GNR is basically the same thing, but necked down to shoot .358 bullets. Again, it is a 22" H&R, not a pistol, but it makes for a legal "rifle" to hunt deer with in Indiana. I've been pretty happy with the accuracy but I'm still working on loads for it. Waiting for the weather to warm up a bit before I do a lot more shooting.

Jim, do you handload for these? I'd like to keep the spreadsheet filled with each category of information, including what bullets are loaded and what the barrels are most used for.

Ernie,

Is it safe to presume you handload for all/most of those? Are they all hunting guns, target, freak out the neighbors?

Jim,
I handload for all of these.
I hunt, varminting, plink, compete, and target shoot with all of them.

Of course, some do not lend themselves to big game, but I have used some of the larger ones for prairie dogs though.:D

I enjoy long-range shooting, so most of these barrels have a fast twist for the caliber to use the higher BC bullets.
