Just getting in to competition / bench shooting.

would it be appropriate to skim bed my .223??

I know absolutely nothing about bedding of any kind, I just know that the stock is a little finicky on this rifle, and will throw flyers an inch outside my touching groups when not held the exact way it likes

Provided the bedding is done right, it will help accuracy. Done wrong and it can have adverse effects.

Hmmmm........ So I can take the original stock, with nothing done to it already, and skim bed it?
can anyone provide me with the best link to attempt this myself, or would it be beneficial to take it somewhere for a smith to do it?

Did you already have a thread on this issue? It seems to be a common complaint with Remington stocks, the synthetic ones at least. They seem to be rather flimsy and tend to react to very slight changes in pressure from the grip.

If that's the issue, I'd probably get a better stock. I've glass bedded enough stocks to not be intimidated by it, but for the example above it's probably not going to help much. Hope I didn't misunderstand the issue.

Ehhhhhh, yes and no.

I was wondering if a quality bedding job would suffice, being much cheaper than just buying a new stock?

If we DO end up getting a new one, we're thinking real hard about one of the Bobby Hart laminated stocks with accublock on the stockystock website. Opinions?

Not sure about Remy, but the Savage synthetics are tupperware.
I have tried MANY different bedding, arrow, metal, tricks for rigidity.
Given the nature of Savage's particular flimsy-ness, none FIX it. To be sure they helped, but didn't give the desired results.
Due to the aforementioned stuff, the term "Accu" anything makes me roll my eyes. However I have several laminate stocks from Rutland(boyds, stockys, etc) they are very nice.

I think that 'accu-block' thing just refers to an aluminum bedding block.
if we went the laminate route, would it be worth the extra $100 for said aluminum bedding block?

I've already gotten sub 1/2 moa, but that was being SO CAREFUL WITH THE RIFLE that it was ridiculous. I want a bit more consistancy in terms that I don't have to be quite so careful, but get the same results.

**** YES, I realize that's great accuracy...... but **** NO I don't want to have to baby my rifle when shooting it to get the optimal results. What can I say..... I am a young man of contradictions ^_^
