I just chrony'ed some loads last Friday, (60 degrees, sunny, Chrony in the shade, but open sky and 4ft from the muzzle).
I was amazed at the Speer Gold Dot load using the 158 grain GDHP bullet (factory loading).

The Gold Dot factory load averaged 1864 fps from my Marlin M1894 (24" barrel) and 1312 fps from my Ruger Vaquero 5 1/2" revolver.

For comparison my "moderate" handloads (11.5 grains of 2400 with a 158 grain lead RNFP bullet) averaged 1487 fps from the Marlin and 1134 fps from the Ruger.

My "light" handloads (4.0 grains of HP38 with a 158 grain lead RNFP) averaged 915 fps from the Marlin and 743 from the Ruger.

Seems awful fast on that Gold Dot load to me, does it seem normal to any of you guys?
