I had asked questions earlier on scope mounts that don't require drilling or other modifications on a Remington (Springfield) 1903 (1942 vintage). The standard rear sight has already been removed and replaced with a Lyman aperture sight (as in the A3 model). Now my question: The mount where the rear sight was looks like it could take a machined plate (plus a shim, riser, etc) to mount scope rings on. Has anyone done this, or does anyone know of a mount already in existence for this purpose? I've found a few long relief rifle scopes or short relief pistol scopes that might work at this distance from the shooters eye with a mount such as this.
