You did not specifi during what time frame so I'll assume you mean the span of the company.

1) Remington (870)
2) Winchester (Model 12)
3) Ithaca (37)
4) Browning (BPS)
5) Benelli

3&4 were a hard choice. Winchester's Model 12's are probably the finest pump guns ever made but the 870 is very good and has changed with the times to be more universal. IMO anyway... and that's what you asked for, right?;)

Well...

I grew up in Ithaca. I like'em. My favorite is the 20 ga 37 my Dad bought the day I was born in '48, although the stock recently split on it. My second favorite is the 37 M&P. ;)Nothing against any of the others, I just got into a rut.

1. Browning (love the bottom ejection)
2. Win. M12 (it seems like they cycle themselves!)
3. Remington 870

Mossbergs get the job done, but I don't care for them. They seem to take forever to break in. The 870's reputation for lasting forever shouldn't be taken literally. It takes awhile, but they can get worn out, just like anything else.

Ithaca, simple, doesn't break, bottom eject, handles like a dream. The model 12 is right in there, but it's sort of clunky to me in the handling department. The Ithaca looks funny where the barrel mates to the receiver though.

Haven't shot Ithaca or Benelli so I can't vote. But I have shot few modern shotguns that I didn't like.

1-Remington Wingmaster
2-Browning BPS even with bottom loading THRU the magazine a well designed gun
Seen too many Model 12s and 37s needing a gun doctor. Mossbergs too noisy and don't like the feel.
Please don't tell me you can load a BPS without going thru the magazine. When the geese are leaving the decoys, I can't quite manage that.

1) remingotn 870
The pump gun of America, rock solid reliable, very nice clean lines and smooth function what more can we honestly ask for form a gun you can buy for $320 dollars new?

2) Remingotn model 10
because I am FASCINATED by the mechanism and because it is COMPLETELY ambidextrous. Bottom ejection, a saftey that is easily operated form either side, take down feature available, truly a gun ahead of its time. Minor drawback that they do wear out and you can kill them by taking them apart wrong.

Ok just for the record i have handled most of the others, i just flat out DO NOT like the beneli it felt clunky and crude when compared with my wingmaster , I like the Ithaca but I'm a right handed shooter so bottom eject is cool but not all that cool for me, besides i have had to fix a few (not fun). Winchester has never impressed me with anything they didn't have invented for them by John browning (sorry) Mossbergs work great and point well but i don't like the look of them (tho my brother beats me shooting skeet with his beat to **** 20 gauge) I have never to my knowledge handled a browning pump shotgun.
