A search of the facts shows that he had a Glock, loaded, with a round in the chamber! No safety on those, ask a cop you know, how many friends have had one go off while re-holstering? Second, he had sweatpants on and had it stuffed in them!?! One wonders how much, if any, training he had with that weapon!!

IMHO it is pretty important if you are going to carry a gun with no safety that you do so in a holster that protects the trigger from an inadvertent activation. A glock will not go off unless the trigger is pulled so don't set yourself up for failure and have any piece of your anatomy or any other object touch the trigger until you are ready to shoot. This is a fundamental of gun safety right up there with not relying on a safety on a gun to keep it from going off. DON'T touch the trigger!

Ouch ouch ouch

If I was EVER going to carry a semi-auto - ANY semi-auto - without a holster, I would put it in the BACK of my pants. Not the FRONT!!!!! Would rather have a few powder burns on my backside, than go looking for parts that I might want later!!!! :D

When I had a Glock I put it in a Fobus hard shell holster, I think. Can't remember.

I often put a single action inside the waistband in the front of my pants while walking around on the deer lease. Needless to say, it's verified that the hammer is down before doing this! Also, with a 5.5" barrel, the cylinder is in front of my left hipbone and the muzzle ends up under the left front pocket, pointed out past my leg, without any of my body parts in front of it. That is, it's pointed to one side, not straight down    Worst case, if it went off, there might be some "sting" from the b/c gap, but hopefully no permanent losses....

A 5.5 stainless Bisley is pretty comfortable to carry this way, my opinion.

Yup, Artist -

Had a local LEO out at the gunrange a couple months ago that managed to shoot himself in the leg when re-holstering his Glock. Said the trigger got caught on his keyring. :p

The Gospel of John (Browning)

Let us read from the Gospel of John (Browning):

"...verily spake the minions of the War Department. Thus it came to pass that a lever falling easy to the thumb was added. The lever so blocked the sear that no errant pull could release the hellfire. And John said 'It is good.'"

Neither.

That was actually a from a moment of personal inspiration, occasioned by your previous post and my knowledge of the ordnance board requirements! A self-quote as it were.

The man has his priorities on which "gun" to take care of all wrong.
Ouch!
I still can't bring myself to carry a round in the chamber on my 1911's even with two safeties.

Good grief, man! Why carry at all? A 1911 is a fighting gun, draw, click,Blammo! Keep the mag in your off side pocket? The idiot in Seattle could hurt himself with a squirt gun, some folks just need to leave guns alone. Condition 1 or none.

A Glock.

At the store in sweatpants.

That's starting out with two strikes, in my book. IWB no holster then makes that "facing Nolan Ryan and daring him to throw a fastball..."

Full disclosure: I hate Glocks. They popularized a generation of truly ugly guns.

There is really no such thing as an accidental discharge, all shooters know that, and why anyone would even need to carry a handgun of any kind on the street either legally or illegally with the exception of the Police, Security or Army escapes me for any common sense whatsoever, and the measure of the absolute paranoia that seems to be common place in the US where your laws allow such things, I love Australia.

Interesting that the nearby thread on Gun Control sits there untouched like it has the plague and any reply to it will be watched by some secret US government department to be flagged and then visited by your FBI, get a grip.

The mass hysteria when "gun contol" is mentioned to the point when all US ammo supplies is low all over the world due to bulk panic buying by US shooters, that goes for all guns, powder primers bullets etc etc, surely sensible gun control is something that most people would want, within reason, or must every citizen carry a handgun, Hello ? is anyone home, does no one see the insanity where it's got to the point where you need to carry any gun.

Sad to see, really is, and the fool that blew away one of his nuts deserves all the pain, as I know the first and last rule is that All guns are always loaded, and to have one that I had deliberately loaded and pointing at true point blank range at my manhood, I guess stupid is as stupid does, accidental discharge, yeah what a crock, or was that ? never mind, that really makes my day.

Flame away, I live under very strict gun laws in Australia, I enjoy my shooting, rifle, shotgun and handgun, and I'm glad I live in a free country where I don't need to carry a gun, and for the record, after the Australian Government via John Howard introduced strict gun control, Gun Crime incresed in Australia, including Murder, Armed robbery violent assault, etc etc all went up nearly 20%, but pointing a gun that I deliberately loaded at my nuts has to be pretty dum, in the extreme.

Friend, you seem to have a real chip on your shoulder about this issue.
I'm sure Austrailia is a wonderful country, no less then our USofA. Some of us carry in our vehicle and some on our person. It is legal to do that in most states. But every once in a while we get some nut that does what this fool did. I'm sure that there are no people like this in your country, right?

Since you brought it up, I'm going to google Austrailan Gun Rights and increases in crime just to familiarize myself with your country.
