I am shooting 4.2 grains of unique in 38 spec for my Vaqueros with a 125 grain lead RNFP. Should I consider either upping the charge to 4.4, or use magnum Federal #200 primers for my Marlin 1894 rifle also in 38/357? Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Unique seems to work best in the upper range loads. Is this for SASS? Is there a problem with your load as it is? If not then keep going with what works. Oregon Trails lists 4.1 to 5.7 with 125 grain cast bullet. If recoil is not an issue and not for SASS I would load to the higher end.

Thanks JMortimer. I am shooting for SASS. I might be under the mistaken impression that I would have to up the charge for the rifle. I plan to use standard #100 Federal primers, and as you can tell my charge is at the lower end. To date, I really haven't had any problems with using 4.2 grains of Unique with 125 grain lead bullets in both the Vaqueros or the Marlin. Thanks.
