I remember about 20 years ago there was a firm selling tungsten bullets in 6MM. This material has now shown up in shotshells, but I believe they are tungsten alloys, not pure tungsten.

The old 6MMs are the same dimensions as the 100 gr flat base jacketed offerings, but I think they weighed 165 grains, yeilding a sectional density of .399.

Speer currently offfers .458 500 gr solids with a tungsten core that are significantly shorter than other offerings, increasing case capacity by 10 grains and adding 700 FP to the 458s energy.

Does anyone know the basic characteristics of pure tungsten? How much denser than lead? Hardness?
