What type of solution would you use in an ultrasonic machine to clean up parts of a rifle you have disembled? Preferably a home made solution. I know you can go buy stuff that is supose to work but is rather expensive. I plan on tearing down a rifle and putting the parts in a solution and when done throwing the soultion away.

I use Simple Green in my sonic cleaner. 50/50 to be exact. Its about $10 for a gallon of it at Lowe's and that stuff eats the grease off metal parts! Its non-toxic and biodegradable with no harsh smell and can be dumped down the sink. I usually spray some Gun Scrubber (aka plastic safe contact cleaner) onto the parts to evaporate the water. Also you can just fish out the gunk and reuse it again and again.

I've used Simple Green, full strength, with good results. It's also nice when you want to dispose of it as it's less toxic.

I use lemi-shine from Walmart with a little cup of hornady one shot cleaning solution. Brass comes out cleaner than off the factory line!

Tried a solution of distilled water dawn dishwashing liquid and white vinegar brass turned out really nice. not sure how it would do on parts.. You can check You Tube for other home solutions..

That's cool.. I returned my U.S cleaner "doesn't hold enough brass" Used the money on more components. But I have an old clipper and an old coffee can am going to try this...

Interesting. My 2.5-liter one from Harbor Freight holds about 85 .30-06 cases and around 200 .223 cases. Works for me...

I guess it would depend on the parts. Trigger assemblies etc, mineral spirits works great in mine. AR bolts where the carbon gets cooked on them, you will need something to dissolve the carbon and the mineral spirits does not do well there without a little work with a brass bristle brush.

Works fine, I have a jug of it here and have used to to get apart a Colt Woodsman that had been stored for years uncleaned. I have it mixed two ways, one for inside the house, the second is outside.

If you don't want to mix it, Brownells sells it. Or I can just post the formula, since Ed made it public domain in a discussion area I ran in the 80's to mid 90s.
