In an investigation surrounding possible consolidation of powders (I'd like to only keep 1-3 powders for every rifle I load for), I loaded up just a few rounds of 223 Rem with Winchester 760. I was searching for better case-fill ratios than 748 gives me underneath 75-grain A-Max bullets (or similar). I am presently loading these bullets to 2.5" COAL, which is as near the lands of my Savage 10FP as I can comfortably come with this bullet.

Anyway, I haven't shot for group, but here is what my chrono told me today:
5 rounds fired, 2935 ft/sec avg. velocity. Interestingly, though, all 5 shots ran at 1 of 2 speeds: 2943 (2 of them) or 2930 (3 of them). I know, only 5 shots; lots more work to do. I just thought that was a peculiar coincidence.

So, I'm wondering: Have any of you used 760 (or its twin, 414) in the 223 Rem under similar-weight bullets? How'd it work out for you? If I can get this powder to work well here and in my 308 under ~150s, then I could conceivably stock just 2 rifle powders!

Anyway, thanks for your experiences or input.
