It is a Montgomery Wards store branded Mossberg 472 or 479.

thanks, everything in your link comes to facts i have followed up, but one piece of info has got me stumped. the link states the rifle in question has a 24" barrel. the rifle i have is only a 20" barrel. any more help. thank you again for the previous link.

I honestly missed the 24" part. 20 inches is pretty much the standard barrel length for a 30-30 lever action rifle. I imagine the 24 inch was simply another model, and I bet they didn't sell many of them.
