I'm assuming the no-lead-all-copper bullet thing will be put in place in a lot of places in the near future. The bullet makers are now making all copper bullets for rifles and pistols, but they are all hollow-point(expanding point ) bullets. Is there a problem with making all-copper WFN-type bullets? Hmmm, bearing surface high...pressures high.....I guess really long bullets...probably pretty pricey...Am I on the right track??

I REALLY DOUBT California's foolishness is going to take over the rest of the world.
I wish I had your optimism. These groups that push this kind of agenda on the rest of us have a lot of money and are very astute. They have a truck load of lawyers and know how to shop around for a sympathetic judge. Reseach the wolf and grizzly bear situation in the Rocky Mountain west to further understand how they operate. These groups have recently sued the EPA with respect to using lead core bullets while hunting. In addition, they want wolves in all of the contenintal US. Here is a link to an article that gives information about one of those judges that disregards what biologists are saying and is letting radical enviornmentalists dictate western and national policy.

Don't doubt it. Many of the stupid ideas/laws from our idiot liberal legislature (and the "Dumbinator" for that matter) infect the rest of the country. The anti-lead movement will be a force to fight. There will be unintended consequences like the stupid "green" mercury light bulbs ("GMLB") that replaced incandescent bulbs which will soon be illegal everywhere. Had one of those GMLB break in my house and EPA recommends cutting out carpet and treating area as a toxic hazzard site. My "favorite" are the dumb-a$$ gas-cans we have here in Kalifornia. Do you all have to use them as well? I see they are both "CARB" and "EPA" approved. You wait and see, the EPA is moving ahead with GHG (green house gas) "Cap and Tax" as the current regime is mad that the Senate stalled on "Cap and Tax" - Unless things change in D.C., the EPA, and the White House, "lead will be dead" as far as bullets go. Don't doubt it.

politics aside, and believe me, I'm on your side(common sense), is there a problem with maufacturing/shooting a WFN-type bullet made from copper only? I can't seem to find any, all are expanding point(hollow point).

That would be useful. The long nose would help alleviate the problem of them using a lot of powder space. Relief grooves could help keep bore friction down, if needed.

I doubt it, not certain tho. Reason I doubt is polyticians (from the Greek; poly = many, tics = blood sucking parasites, ians = professional) fear being voted outta office more than death. That means those states with a higher general intelligence voter base is less likely to follow lock step with those that do not.

The silly greeny-squigly bulbs and ethanol were snow jobs on DC, not the individual states. States control their own non-migratory game (not birds) and for the immediate future it appears the states are ready to fight back at DC. A vote for Palin would clinch that and her "lack of experience" is still ten times more than the community organizer (aka, socialist rabble rouser) we have now.

I wish I had your faith.

Copper bullets are not about the environmet, they are about finding some way to make hunting more difficult, and more expensive.

A very small upside, is that the response from bullet makers was to supply a bullet even more lethal and effective than almost any previous type, and the economies of scale even kept the price in line.

Being an individual as you are also,i think we have the right to do as we please,I hate politics and politicians for their lying and big salaries--but i am going to stick to my story about copper bullets, and eventually make some Brass bullets, mainly because i am a retired
Air Conditioning man and have plenty on stock, when the lead runs out and the good old boys in the stores sell out,I will still be shooting my own-----:D:):):):):):D:)

Melting point for various metals

Aluminum----1218 degreres
Brass---------1700
Bronze-------1675
Cast iron-----2200
Copper-------1981
Lead---------327
Silver--------1761
Steel---------2500
Most of these metals can be melted with a Turbo torch which is used for brazing copper-if not you can use a Rose budd like i am planning on doing--
Do NOT USE BULLET MOULDS THAT ARE MADE OF ALUMINUM,AS THEY WILL MELT ON YOU--
USE STEELBULLET MOULDS-------------------:D:D:D:D:D
Everyone be careful and have a wonderful day-------- CFITZ

I am also reloading some military brass for the 7.62x54r,it has the berdan primer, and i have my drill press set up with a 1/2 drill chuck bolted to my drill press so i can drill out the old primer,go slow and you ill drill dead center----after that you will need a little bit of 1/4 inch copper tubing to make an insert for the drilled out primer so the new Boxer primer will fit
it will have to be swaged a little then you can gently press it in or use a small ball peen hammer to tap it in.
After that take a small grinder and smooth the insert---then it is ready to reload-----there are thousands of these just waiting to be picked up for reloaded.
I AM RETIRED SO I HAVE PLENTY OF TIME AND TOOLS FOR THE JOB ON HAND----

all copper bullets have been around for 100 years. Most designer abandoned them beforww-2, as failures, nothing has changed, except more ads and hype.

If you want a solid try the Woodleigh bullets. they make a number including the Mono-Bloc which I load in the 416 Weatherby for really BIG critters.

I think we will have no lead legislation soon. That is why Remington and others are buying stock in copper bullet technology. Remember the lead shot ban!!! maybe we will not even have guns by then?
