I'd like to compile a simple spreadsheet of who shot what this year, with which cartridge, bullet and at what distance and location. I'm trying to get an idea of how often short range cartridges are used at their limit and how often long-range cartridges are used in close, relative to where the cartridge was used, and for what type of game.

Below is the format I would prefer:

Model 92 Winchester, 44/40, 210gr Hornady XTP, 70 yards, whitetail doe, Midwest.
TC Omega ML, 50 cal ML, 250gr 45 cal sabot, 90 yards, whitetail doe, Midwest.
TC Omega ML, 50 cal ML, 250gr 45 cal sabot, 30 yards, whitetail buck, Midwest.

These are the deer my daughter and wife took this year...both of mine this year were with a bow.

The more guys who give me some info, the more interesting the spreadsheet might be. Thanks in advance for any who decide to participate.

I didn't hunt this year, but I set my 12 year old Grandson up with a Remington
youth model 7MM/08 last Christmas. He went hunting in Pennsylvania with his
dad. He shot a black bear 125 lbs. Bear was coming straight at him first shot
about 50 yards (his words) broke a shoulder. Didn't know the bear was hit.
second shot about 10 yds. 140 grain bullet went through both lungs. (didn't
know the bear was hit) 3rd at shot bear going away clean miss. Bear ran about
30 or 40 yds and went into a ditch. When his dad got there they went to the
ditch and the bear was dead. (proud grandpa Zeke).

Thanks for all of the replies, so far. I will compile the spreadsheet info until it seems that interest in this thread dies out, and then post it for everyone who contributes. My main interest is to see what calibers are being used and at what ranges various critters are being harvested.

So far this year.

Weatherby Vanguard Sporter .270 Winchester super-X 130 grain power point : 10 point buck @ 120 yards; doe @ 210 yards; 7 point @ 70 yards; doe @ 220 yards; antlerless buck @ 180 yards; doe @ 25 yards.
T/C Icon .308 Hornady 168 grain A-max: big doe @ 300 yards.

We have an abundance of deer here (understatement) we get three antlered and three antlerless with our regular big game and bonus tags are $18 for 6 more antlerless and they can be purchased as many as you want. Although my freezer is full I have friends and neighbors who rely on me to get them venison and anything after that goes to hunters for the hungry (they have 80,000 people on the rolls in my area this year for deer meat, double last years enrollment) although I take quit a few deer they are professionally processed and enjoyed by many, venison is much healthier than other red meats.
Additionally some of the distances may seem long but I am an accomplished rifleman who practices year round, the farthest run any of the afore mentioned deer made was the 7 point who ran 60-70 yards without lungs.

Edit: Groundhogs: Cooper Jackson Hunter 17hmr 17 grain V-max 30+/- 50 to 150 yards Savage model 14 in .204 Ruger Hornady 32 grain V-max 10 to 15 150 to 350 yards.

Also got a 10 point and a doe with bow, but I guess they don't count.

I have similar data for all my kills back to 1975, if you want them.

Winchester Model 70 .270 WSM with 130 grain Winchester Ballistic Silvertips (on all kills), all in central Alberta.

Mule Doe, 40 yards, neck shot.
Whitetail Buck, 85 yards, neck shot.
Mule Doe #2, 160 yards, head shot.
Mule Buck, 35 yards, frontal heart shot.
Whitetail Doe, 65 yards, spine shot.
Whitetail Buck #2, 12 yards, double lung shot.
Whitetail Doe #2, 65 yards, neck shot.
Whitetail Doe #3, 65 yards, neck shot.

All dropped on the spot other than (interestingly) Mule Doe #2 who made is about 20 yards before she hit the dirt.

I should also mention that I've NEVER shot a deer over 100 yards with the exception of this year with my mule doe. My average shot on deer (throughout my life) is probably around 35-50 yards. I believe in getting close. Also, just FWIW, (and because it's interesting to me) whitetail doe #3 fell right on top of whitetail doe #2. The mule buck dressed out at 307 pounds. I broke a sweat carrying the quarters from the truck to the house.
