One reason to buy the .357 is because you already have a handgun in that caliber, but, if you are just looking for a collector's piece I would go to one of the many gun auction sites online and pick up a new or used .30-30 or even a new or used big bore. A .444 or .45-70 would look nice in your collection, too. Your question is a little hard to address because you don't plan on hunting with this rifle, it seems merely to be a collector's item. You also didn't mention your budget. If I was going to get a lever-action simple as a collector piece I would either get a new 38-55 or a used .25-35.

Well, Marshall just sold me. I've never been a fan of pistol ammo in rifles but more and more I hear people  saying how much fun they're having with their .357s. Actually, how in the world do you just choose one lever gun?
