so i got her zeroed [at the 100]with th 170 grn power pt.. my choice..
my puter rejects the winchester ballistic online charts..
i need to know my holdover with a marlin 336..
this at say 150 yrds..
now imo leave it zeroed where its at,an will stay with this rnd as it likes this gun..so shes set .. but it would really help if you guys could give me your dope on this factory rnd..thsnks slim
ps i got an 06 for long range ,with its favorite rnd ..
but i thinks this gun can find a permanent place in the lineup..
with this info..ammo is high for me now so ,even with this cheaper but adequate rnd an set up,, it ll be fine. ..thanks for any help..slim..
i know ..proofs in the pudding but id still appreciate any info ,given..might save me some money..

It looks like the 170-grain Winchester factory load chronographs between 2,000 and 2,100 fps depending on the individual rifle and the particular day.
Greg Mushial say the BC on a 170-grain Winchester Power Point is .254. At 2,050 fps with a 100 yard zero you have a point blank range on an 8” target circle (4” above and below the line of sight) of 185 yards.
At 200 yards the bullet drop is 5.3” with 1,446 fpe remaining.
At 240 yards bullet drop is 9.9” with 1,280 fpe remaining.
With this sight setting the bullet has dropped 19.8” at 300 yards with 1,060 fpe remaining.
EDIT] I lost my mind for a moment: At 160 yards your bullet drop is 2.25" with this sight setting and you have 1,628 fpe remaining.

The data below is a little out of alignment, but if your bullet is starting around 2200fps, you could sight in 2" high at 100 and be plenty good out to about 175, or so. Wouldn't suggest much farther than that because the energy and trajectory really start to drop off.

thanks fellas .. i never even figured that out 200 was practical ..but
5.3 holdover i can do an i can even get coyote at 200 .. just estimate fairly correct range an find that spot on my vertical post..then just adjust according to range..might not take to many rnds an this guns got
a place in my notradeum category.. these things sure do carry easy
with little 3by 9 scope..
broom i don t want to fool with the 2 high setting[at least today] as like i said if im going where i might need over 200 ,i ll take the 06.. least for now anyway..
key for me is get it set where i want it an learn the performance with that setting..now with the cost of ammo ,ive learned to take mabe just 2 shots or so a day, ..study the results ..until i totally know an have confidence in what im doing..thanks to both of you..slim
who knows,with the 150 grn ,it may be about 1 1/2 high..best o both situations..nothing around here a 150 grn won t knock winding ,with a well placed shot..

she made the starting lineup this morning..this marlin 30 30 will stay..
two shots ..one at white shoe toe sized white quartz rock,at mabe
115..no white dust flew but the rock itself got knocked up some..so i know i hit the bottum of it..
next shot same size rock.. on out at 125-130yrds,an adjusted aimpoint for that distance..kicked a white spray o dust up 2 ft high..both shots good enough to nail a coyotes head at that distance..hope yall will excuse my excentricity .. i needed something to cheer me up a little..besides,, i am 62 yrs old..
i do appreciate yalls input..im always the better for it..slim
