I have just ordered a Winchester Big Bore in 444.  I intend to only shoot lead bullets from this gun and have a couple of questions.  1) What diameter of bullet is recommended for loading the 444?  2) What are some recommended loads for hunting, whitetail, elk, and moose?

Thanks

Bill

Hi, Punkinchunker:
Click on the Tech Notes bar on the left side of the screen and scroll down to :
.444 Marlin- America's Most Versatile Big-Bore Part I

There's a ton of info there.

Bill,

You'll want .432" diameter bullets for your Win BB in .444 Marlin they'll shoot much tighter than .429" or .430 bullets.  Too, consider fire-lapping the gun, and the loading data you're looking for is found in the series .444 America's Most Versatile Big Bore found in the Tech Notes section of this website.

Great hunting rifle, and a nice lightweight portable package you've chosen.

Let us know how you make out with it!

God Bless,

Marshall
