Winchester M94

Saw in Rifle Magazine that winchester is bringing back the 94, at least on a limited basis. Fancy wood, engraving, thumb safety on the back strap and made in Japan. Read that the MSRP was going to be around $1500.

Will be interesting to see how the public responds to that.

Yeah, I agree. Perhaps they're testing the waters but they're testing the WRONG waters. To my way of thinking if they're gonna bring it back, make it so a working man can afford one.
I "won" mine as a poker debt. And I DON'T play for them kind of stakes!

In my mind, half of that is too much for what the rifle is.

Cheezywan
Have a saddle ring carbine made in 1905 that my grandfather passed along to me. I'd never trade a million new ones for it. Give me the oldies but goodies!
.

$1500 for a rifle worth about $300, sounds about like Winchester. Price it extremely high and some people will think it more valuable. LOL

Wait until the entire world is in the midst of a recession and then re-re-re-re-reintroduce a "classic" action that is incredibly over-priced. Oh, and don't even build it in America where your target market is located. I can only hope that the seasoned citizens who have both the money and the nostalgic interest are smart enough to show Winchester that they're not falling for the same old trick again.
Agree, $1500 is silly and what the heck is a thumb safety on a Model 94? If I wanted a useless safety on a lever gun, I would get a Marlin.
Find yourself a good pre-64 and hold on to it dearly. Search pawn shops and all the auction sites. You can still find a REAL Winchester 94 in the $300 to $500 range. Even a post-64 would be better than one stamped "Made in Japan".
I think its a shame that a company like Winchester would sell guns that were made in Japan. I wouldnt have one in my house if cost 15 bucks brand new in the box. Makes me want to sell the 94 Winchester I already own just in spite. What happened to patriotism? What happened to Winchester being the cowboy riding a fast horse with a rifle in his hand???? Im sorry I read this thread. Its discouraging to see so many of our products being shipped overseas and so many people in the US being unemployed. We need to come together as a nation, get this country back on the right track, before its too late. Just my .02 cents.

What happened is that the company was bought by a Belgian company.
Now I like where this is going! "Buy American" is one of my favorite rants... and I'm Canadian!

Indeed, they are testing the waters, but in the wrong manner. The too-high pricetage would be semi-justified if I knew some of that 1500$ was going into American worker's pockets.

The 3 things I cherish the most are my Winchesters, my old Z-Series Penn Reels, and my GMC. I bitched and complained to Penn Fishing Reels a few times when they discontinued my reels and started making them in China, and low and behold, they are starting to make some in PA again... at a price. But it's worth it and I hope they do well with them.

Wichester needs to do the same thing, but for God's sake, ease up on the cheezy gold embelishments! I don't wanna pay 1500$ for a rifle with some old guys picture on it... well, unless it was Ted Nugent maybe...

That American title directed at "US" as in Usians, being thee Americans has always bothered me. I will always look at our Northern Brothers and Sisters as Americans. Canadian Americans:).
