I'm checking with you guys to see if a 17# hammer spring is to light for my Ruger.I'm going to do a nice action job on it and I'm looking for about a 2# pull. I'm not hunting with it ,mostly plinking and target competition. If I'm ever in Brown Bear country I will be caring it.I live in a pretty warm Clement(winter gets a little cold up here S.CA. Mountains)but not nothing to cry about.I'm most likely be using CCI 300 of Fed.150 primers in all my loads.
Return spring 30oz or 40oz ? Thanks.

I would think you will be OK with the 17 lb. spring, because the hammer is pretty heavy and should have enough momentum to smack any primer well enough to fire. I have used the Wolf kit in several Ruger SA's with good results, but can't remember what weight I used for the mainspring. The last Ruger SA I bought, and the only one I still have, a Lipsey's .44 Special, turned out great with just the "poor man's trigger job", where you detach one leg of the trigger spring from the grip frame. It feels like about 2 lbs.

Since you are planning on using it mainly for targets and range work, just shoot it a few hundred times and you will know if you can depend upon it for something more serious.

Thanks for the reply.I have done some action jobs in the past by cutting the spring with good results. I know some say not to and some say it's OK . I have never had a problem with the one's I have done.I think if there's the right spring for the job it's better for the long run.(detach one leg of the trigger spring from the grip frame) Detach=Cut one coil ?

If you Google "poor man's Ruger trigger job" you should find info on it. You just take the grips off and lift one side of the trigger spring off its post on the grip frame. It cuts the spring tension on the trigger in half, and can be reversed any time you want by simply reattaching the spring leg to its post. You don't cut or modify the spring in any way.

Changing the hammer spring will make the hammer easier to cock, however it will do nothing for the trigger spring. You can buy a lighter trigger spring, and if you get a kit from Wolf, you'll get both.
