Just Got My Hands On Another X Gun .270 Camo. Iv'e Got A Redfield 3x9x40 Mounted And Bore Sighted And I'm Headed To The Range Tomorrow To Punch Some Paper. If This Sucker Is As Accurate Out Of The Box As My Other Two X Guns I Will Be One Happy Camper. When I Learn How To Post Pics I'll Give It A Try. My Others Are A .308 And A .243 And Both Were Spooky Accurate Right Out Of The Box. Adjustable Triggers Are The Bomb!!! Good Optics Are Nice Also.

I have 3 "X" guns myself, and have a 4th on lay-a-way. I have never seen guns that where so consistantly accurate over the calibers offered. The only gun I own that will out shoot my 308 and 30-06 "X" guns is a heavy barreled 22-250.

Are you shooting factory ammo or handloads for your 270 'Niner? My friends' 270 camo "X" gun shoots 130gr bullets under 1.5" at 200yds with NO load developement. 60grains of H4831 and a 130gr Speer or Nosler BT shoot like crazy in it.

I am still on the market for a .308 and have yet to decide between the x gun or a weatherby vanguard synthetic. I like what im hearing so far for the marlins, but weatherby is tried and true as well.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Marlin. The money saved will buy you a very nice scope to fit on the "X" gun of your choice.

Have any of you put a Boyd's stock on your X gun? I really like laminate stocks, and I can put a Boyd's on a new XS7 and still be less expensive than a lot (most) of guns.

Personally, I prefer the light weight of the synthetic stock. I have a laminated stock on my Savage muzzleloader, and (2) 700 classics, but they add too much weight.

If they offered more cartridge selection, I'd probably get one. I'd have a hard time passing up an XS7 in .338 Federal.
I just picked up a 2nd 308 "X" gun and have to make up my mind about shooting it, or using it for a donor action. I got it used for $270, and McGowen wants $260 for a drop in blued barrel for the "X" guns. So, for about $550 I could have a 250 Savage, 260 Remington, 358 Winchester, or a 338.

You know which I get! I've been looking for a longer-barrelled 260.

I'm envious of you guys!

The latest issue of Rifle magazine (Wolfe Publications) has an article on the Marlin X rifles. The writer indicated this year Marlin will come out with the ss model and can be stocked in laminate, synthetic or walnut. May want to check in with Marlin for details.

Are the synthetic stocked X guns pillar bedded by chance. I keep reading so much on this forum about these guns its got my attention. I never really would have given it a second thought for a Marlin without the lever but a lot of interesting comments here. I'll have to check out the Rifle magazine article.

The X guns are indeed pillar beded, that's 1 of the things that contributes to their out off the box accuracy. I have several friends on marlinowners .com that thave put their guns into Boyds stocks. I have handled a couple and I must say the fit and finish are great, yes they do add alitle weight but it wasn't that noticeable.
