My two favorites are an old Model 1911 Colt made in 1916 and a Ruger Blackhawk .41 Magnum SA. The 1911 was my backup gun during my LE years. I never needed to fire the 1911, but did use it a time or two to ZAP a Bad Guy choking my partner in a project.
The Ruger .41 Magnum is my woods gun and house gun.
Plus 1 on the S&W Model 15. Mine sports S&W target stocks and was bought new in 1963, my first handgun. I still have it and use it regularly at my local range.
On election night of our current POTUS's 2nd term I scored from a retired LEO & RO of my gun club 2 no dash S&W's in great shape a 640 with presentation rosewood grips & a 681, both for 625$. Those are current favorites. The model 10 or 617 probly gets shot most.
My two favorites are my Kel Tec P-32 pocket gun in .32 acp which shoots flawlessly, is accurate and dependable. Carry it everywhere. Then there is my Bersa Thunder .32 acp which they no longer make. It also has shot flawlessly since I got it. It also has Marschal custom wood grips in Zebrawood. I know you guys are big bore people, but 2 or 3 quick shots of .32 acp in center mass will drop most people. Would not sell either gun ever.
Hard to decide.
Two of my favorite pistols are my Ruger Redhawk, 7 1/2 " barrel with a 2x Weaver scope in .44 magnum.
The other is my S&W 459 in 9mm. My carry gun for many years.
In rifles, my first hunting rifle, a 1903 Springfield 30-06 still in military trim.
The other is a DPMS LR-308, heavily modified long range weapon.
My favorite is a pre-1970 Colt Commander that I had built into a off-duty/under-cover weapon. I carried it for the last 2/3s of my LEO career and a number of years after that running my own firearms training business.
That's not so much dirt on the frame as it is hours and hours of hand contact from thousands of rounds fired down range. Arthritis eventually made shooting 1911s too painful so it's been honorably retired.
I now carry a Glock…but it will never be a favorite.

Frame hard chromed? We went lightweight commanders, also with 30LPI checkering. But ours were more in line with the mods we did for the early IPSC 1911s including Swenson Ambi safeties. when my brother didn't return my LWC I went with a Springfield Combat Commander. Held up nicely and a lot longer than a LWC.
Yea, I had the alloy frame hard chromed. You can see the steel parts held up much better than the alloy. Still I think the chrome was a good choice for a duty gun and probably was more serviceable than the hard anodizing Colt put on it at the factory back in the 1960s.

OK remember one thing, there were two "Commanders" from Colt, you had the LWC the same was we used. The other was steel frame.
All our 1911s (except duty) were hard chromed. The guy below is Mike Horne with his series 70 in 76 IIRC, basically the way we had all ours and the way a lot of the 1911s are made today. Classic times when you could still get a pistol hard chromed, sadly started going the way of the dinosaur when the race guns (compensated, especially the 38 super) came into being. Mike was an incredible shooter, rifle and pistol and a gunsite instructor.
We got issued series 80s after the Model 59 headaches. First thing we did was pull the monkey motion "stuff" and get decent triggers on them.
