Thanks in advance for reading this post. Seeking help to get the right mount, and am failing miserably. Hopefully shared pain will help me and future shooters.

Note that the Zastava Sporter differs from the Zastava M48 military rifle in that it has no center recoil bolt through the stock and that it has a fixed rear notch site similar to ones you would find on a regular Remington or other brand hunting rifle, not one that drops into a recessed mount and is adjustable for long distances. So the scout scope mounts used with M48 military rifles won't work with this nor will any other "no-modify" mounts that use the military style rear sight group.

The rifle:

Zastava M48 Sporter 8x57JS rifle which has been drilled and tapped as follows (all English measurements):

* = screw on the rifle, measurements are from center hole to center hole.

I don't know if this was a factory job or gunsmithing. I think the latter based on what I saw
of rifles available online. Was hoping it was done to accomodate a standard scope mount (for which I have yet to find).

My goal is to obtain a Picatinny mount that fits the above without any modification.

So far I have looked in these places for a low profile (0 MOA) type mount without success:

and other places. The problem is that the hole dimensions are not provided in most places.

I did get some of this on some parts at Country Store, but could not match up the ones they have.

Waiting on feedback from Brownells.

Purchased the gun from Cabelas, but they had no soluitions for me.

I am also waiting to hear back from Zastava USA and Brownells now.

If anyone has specific mount model thats still available and will work as per above please feel free to reply.

If I don't get a satisfactory response I found a mount thats not drilled and plan to have it
gunsmithed to fit.

For the benefit of others, the rifle has an internal magazine (looks like a 5 + 1) and will allow use of stripper clips to load. Where to get the stripper clips is another story for another post (idk).

I'm going to take a stab at this.
It sounds like you have a Zastava M70 (not to be confused with the Winchester Model 70) with a 98 clone action, the same maker of the Mk X, Charles Daly, & Rem 798. These are all the same rifle as in Chevy & GMC with trucks.
It probably came D&T from the factory for standard front and rear receiver ring scope bases and whatever fits any of the above marked rifles should fit your Zastava.
And forget Cabelas, that place is a joke.

Thanks Kudzu for the reply. In doing a fair amount of research I believe the rifle is a M48/63 Sporter, it looks much like an M48, but the obvious difference is ir does not have a bolt horizontally through the center of the stpck like a regular milsurp M48 does, and its rear sight is similar to a standard hunting rifle, not the kind that will allow removal of rear sight assembly and dropping in a scout scope mount.
I think this rifle has the military M48 parentage just slightly modified as a sporting rifle, but to what extent its parts differ is unclear to me.
Cabelas has a number of these for sale at this time. apparently some ppl did not like the rifle (8mm too much gun 4 deer?), found Zastava hard to deal with (as I have) or there is some serous problem with this model (have no hard evidence of this and I have trolled the 'Net looking 4 info on this gun for weeks). Getting parts 4 this rifle may be a problem if ever an issue because Zastava will not sell parts direct to owners; you have to go through the country factory rep for your country, and if the one country rep/firm is not interested in working with you, you are out of luck (the current USA rep only seems to be interested in selling me a new AK47 and did not even try to answer any of the questions I posed to them) Also over time Zastava has gone from working with one USA-based company to another and past results reported by owners in terms of getting support has often been unsatisfactory. The current rep Zastava USA has shown zero interest in supporting me to date. How they expect to sell firearms here in US when putting these kinds of obstacles in the way of owners (no support) is hard to understand. My rifle is in almost new condition, so at present there is some reason to be optimistic. I will find out more when I do some range time.

What parts do you need ? That mauser action will outlast our lifetimes with no breakage of anything. But should you need an extractor or firinig pin (for example) they are very common at gunbroker and ebay, also plenty at the parts houses online.
The M48 is what is called an intermediate length action which is .25" shorter than a standard length mauser 98 action.
I think what you are describing as the rear sight is a civilian type that is either dovetailed or has 2 screws attaching it to the barrel and not the military rear sight. Also there is no cross bolt in the stock.
If it is a military action, the hump on the rear receiver ring will need to be removed for a set of conventional scope mounts. However there is an option if you are wanting to scope it and that is a sniper type mount for the left receiver rail. Whichever way you go, you will have to change the "flag" safety to one that will clear the scope and possibly have the bolt handle modified for clearance also.
