Hello guys,

I've ordered a Sako 85 short action (.338 Federal) and need to scope it. I'm thinking about the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40. Several places have them for $400 which seems like a good price/performance ratio to me but I've never owned a Zeiss before so I don't know how their Conquest, economy line fares against other scope in this price range?

What about the size/weight of this scope? It's listed between 13" and 13.5" in length, depending on whose specs you read, and about 15oz. Do you guys think this scope will look/feel a bit bulky on a 7lb short action Sako?

I've also ordered Sako's "Optilock" one-piece "Ringmounts" in low, which as I understand it are actually somewhat high, and good for scopes up to about a 50mm objective. Does anyone know if this ring mount / scope combo will work?

Thanks all,

Ahh,
My favorite scope. The rings will work.
But I prefer the 3.5-10 x 44 mm that they make.
The best light gathering scope I have ever used. Since most of what I kill is seen either real early or real late, I want the best I can get for that reason.
You'll like either scope.

I own close to 60 rifle scopes (if not more..). Lots of Leupolds(20), Nikons, Burris, Bushnell Elites, Weaver V series, Pentax, Redfield, etc. I have three Zeiss Conquests among them too. They are either at the top (all 3) or at least top 4 or 5 of all the scopes I own. I cannot see how you'd be disappointed. I have yet to find any other scope @ $400., that's a better scope or value as a hunting scope.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice, the Conquest is ordered... I had some coupons and so forth through Cabela's so it ended up only costing me $375 shipped.
