6mm-250 Savage
Hi All,
OK so I've just about finished with the project gun that is 270-308. It's going fine. Killed a goat and a deer so far.

Now like last time I've been thinking. I think the 243 is a bit overbore. How do you guys think a 6mm-250 Savage would go. Maybe a 1:10 to 1:9 twist. I'm thinking - less powder, noise, barrel burn, kick, but similar velocity.

I'd like to hear opinions

Is this a difficult question or has no one ever been involved with a 6mm-250 Savage.

Search the Australian forums ... there are a few kicking about mostly as varminters. Close to 243Win with light projectiles ... falls behind with the heavier.

I've never considered the 243 overbore, it seems to work very well with everything from 55 to over 100 grain bullets. I'd thing you really need to move up to something like the 6mm-06 AI or the 240 Weatherby to get into real overbore cases in 6mm/243.

If you think the .243 Win. is overbore, sounds like you need a .260 Rem.

Look up the cat 6mm International, based on a 250AI necked to 6mm.

A buddy of mine built a 240 International a coupla of years ago on a p-17 enfield with a 30in Hart heavy varmit barrel. It really shoots well as this is his P- dog rig. Have seen him make some incredible shots using mostly 70gr or 87 gr bullets.

I am using a 6mm-250AI to push a 115 Tubb bullet at 3000 fps. I can easily go to 3100 but I don't get any accuracy at that speed. I haven't tried any lighter bullets yet, but I have some 105 Bergers in waiting.
