I'm seriously considering purchase of a Schmidt & Bender scope (used), BUT--the tube is 26mm. I am having no luck in locating 26mm rings. I may be hallucinating, but it seems I recall that size being available some years past. I have a definite preference for dove-tail type rings, such as fit Leupold or Redfield etc. bases. Any help on where I can get 26mm rings? Thanks!

Mr. Belk--I must say that I thought surely Talley would have them, but they aren't listed in Brownells, even though they are a distributer and list about every other Talley product. What is your source for Talley? I really don't like the idea of using plastic sleeves to make up .157+ with 30mm rings. I've considered honing 1" rings, but that's a bit tricky to do properly without special tooling, even if it is only .024. Thanks.

FWIW, Talleys also require proprietary bases as well.

As for 1" or even lapped 1" rings working, there's tons of failures mentioned when you Google it.

As far as inserts, you'll find lots of fans of Burris rings that utilize inserts either for long range of to correct offset bases.

Tnhunter-- Talley uses a 45deg. .500 dovetail which is the same as Kimber and Warren. It was started by Len Brownell about 1970.
It looked like it would become THE standard but suddenly the black gun/Pickatinny rage hit and classic mounts took a back seat.

Like I said, my friend...they are now proprietary and while nice, not cheap.

Not cheap for SURE! Dave is an old friend and fellow PD shooter. I remember seeing the invoice on the first CNC he bought in Glenrock, WY to make the first rings. Talk about QC!! He's fantastic.
Dave Talley is one of the original charter members of the Am. Custom Gunmakers Guild. He and Ted Blackburn supplied custom metalsmithing parts to the trade. After you make a banded front ramp with fold down Leopard bead from bar stock one time, it's very easy to shell out $300 for one 90% done!

I just put a set of his rings on Warren bases and just put a set of his rings on my new CZ-527, too. I did learn one thing! Ebay and optics planet is $20 cheaper on Talley rings than Talley is!

Any gunsmith with a lathe can turn 1" rings to 26 mm. He just need to turn two short bolts: one 1" and one 26 mm. He then puts the 1" in the lathe, and mounts the ring on the bolt, that half the inside is free to be opened up to 26 mm. Then he shifts bolt to 26 mm, mounts the ring that the other side can be opened up. It's a simple job!

Once I opened some Tasco rings to 26 mm with a brake cylinder honing tool, but I do not suggest anyone to try - it's to easy to make a bad job.

try Ebay for NOS or used rings in 26mm. The ones I have bought in recent years have been Redfield, but have seen other standard dove tail type ring sets from Leupold, Burris, etc. on occasion. They will not be cheap, as most are used with old Kolmorgen and other scopes from the 40's and 50's. They are out there.
