RL 15 or RL22 for '06

I know how well RL15 works in the .308 Win. for accuracy, but is it as good for paper punching in the '06(i have a 06 target grade) or would the slower burning RL22 be better?

I would use the RL-22, The longer case isn't very conducive to a fast burning powder. Les

Hmmmm..... if you already have some, try it. I do shoot Varget in my '06 and it works well, that is pretty similar in application to Re15, I believe.

Might depend more on the bullet weights than anything else.

I haven't had any problems with 19, I do tend to use H380 a lot more though. Les

You made me look, the Nosler Manual only uses re15 on 2 loads, the rest are either 19 or 22. Kind of odd though, one load is 125 grain bullet and the other load is 220 grains.I can give the rest of the data if you would like. Les

My favorite '06 powder was IMR4350 for years. Tried some IMR4895 and found it to be pretty good, also. Today, I use H4831SC in just about all my moderate to large capacity cases.

The Alliant RL 19 and 22 series seem to match the above powders. Only found the RL25 to be too slow. My 25-06 always performed well with the RL22 and heavy-for-caliber bullets.

I would say it depends on what weight bullet you plan to shoot in your '06. IMO, for bullets of 150 gr or under, I would suggest the RL15. For bullets of 165 gr or heavier, the slower burning RL22 would probably give you an extra 150 to 200 fps at maximum loads, and provided good accuracy in my old Model 70 carbine. With the 150 gr bullets, the slower burning powders offered no advantage, at least out of my 20 inch barrel.

RL22 is pretty slow for an '06 unless you are using 200, and up, grain bullets. RL15 would probably work best for bullets 150gr and under, as 2ndtimer stated. RL19 will work for 150-200gr bullets and give up very little, if anything, in the way of velocity to the other two, and won't be touched by either with the 165gr bullets.
