Our next candidates in the neverending series of "Shoot the poop", are a Leupold and a NcStar

Some of you may remember the VX-II for having been posted for sale more than 3 different times, but no one wants a 50mm objective. So to the shootin' pile she go!!

Don't know if I've ever talked about the NcStar Mk IV. It's actually unfortunate. The glass is really quite good on these, better than many Leupy's... But SFP, Mil reticle, and 1/4 MOA clicks is dumber than a bag of hammers, so off with her head.

Last time I was shooting Painless and SMK's, This time I'll shoot one of my Creeds and some SMK-like products. Not sure If I'll take out the Marlin, or the Ruger.

Anyway, same deal as before. So any bets on if the 6.5 can get deeper than the 308??:D

Don't start, RJ - you know it will get closed!

I bet it has either a holster or a scabbard on it, maybe both. That's what I'm curious about. ;)

I saw this on Mythbusters quite a while back. Don't remember the scope or the rifle they ended up with to "Hathcock" the offending scope, but it was cool.

What can I say... I'd rather be someone's shot of whiskey, than everyone's cup of tea. :D:D

Has been in the classifieds several times, on several different years; which means you could have prevented a crime, but chose not to Jack;);):)

Not really sure why YouTube has decided to take things in this oddly formatted window...
Anyway to be consistent with the First two posts, I backed up to 95 yards.

Anyhow, here is the NcStar YouTube link:

I knew the Z-axis was off, but wasn't going to walk down there again to fix it.:p
You can see that it looks like the bullet was bouncing off the right side of the bell. But the erector set was totally destroyed and pulled down to the eyepiece. It completely shattered the eyepiece glass, and broke it free from the threads. Didn't quite knock it off or come out, but VERY close. Lots of powdered bullet fragments in the scope.

Now L.O.W.'s.....I mean Oregon's finest link:

This one has me a little perplexed. This was perfectly lined-up, and I'm confident I didn't pull the shot. So I'm not sure if the bullet changed direction after impact, or exactly what went wrong on the way to heaven.... Anyhow I couldn't find any bullet fragments inside. While it did completely break the erector set, it didn't really get past that area, and the eyepiece lens was perfectly fine. Interestingly as you can see it broke the objective hosing to smithereeneys. and broke away from the scope where it flares to it's full diameter. Somehow missed the picture where you can see the whole tube is bent.

Someone asked me in one of the previous posts, to turn things around and see if shooting "with the direction of light" would be easier or harder. :D
Since that lens was perfectly fine, I did.

Lens is completely destroyed, but no bullet fragments to be found, nor was all the carnage from shooting the opposite direction moved.

Oh and RJ, Holster is on me, not the Wide Glide. But I have leather saddle bags that would work nicely;)

The tragic thing was I didn't have anything or rings high enough to mount the Leupold or I could have saved it from such savage destruction.

I actually did use that threat when I posted it last time, and it was fire-sale pricing.
I have never sold anything at retail on this board, I like it here and the folks that frequent it. :):)

If memory serves, I threatened to take it down and see if Kdub's aim was good enough to shoot it, in "Scope Destruction part 2".....
.....Wait.... This IS your fault Kdub!!! :D:D:D

Oh, Yeah - blame it on the guy that's still weeping over the demise of such a fine optic. :p

Its always fun shooting stuff! And when it's something that is/was a source of aggravation , it's all the sweeter!

I had a Bushnell years ago that was giving me fits and one trip to the range , brought tools and an extra scope. It acted up again that day and I said that's it. Removed it and placed it on the 100 yard line and remedied the problem with a 7mm mag. Never did find all the parts! It blew the eye peice off and when I found it there was no lense left. Can't say for sure wether or not it went all the way through but I doubt it did. Probably took the lense out with shrapnel.

As far as the myth busters recreation , I remember they used an aluminum scope and always thought a steel tube should be used since im assuming that's what they had then.
