These were made by Winchester for Sears and are, as you have guessed, Sears-marked '94s. I haven't seen any for sale for a while, but generally speaking they will go for less than a comparable Winchester-marked rifle. Check some auction sites (Gunbroker, Auction Arms, etc.) and you might find one or two.

 

That is most likely a Ted Williams model 100. It was made by Winchester for Sears. The same as a 94. They sell anywhere between 150 and 250 depending on condition. I bought a real nice one out of a Pawn shop in Winchester, KY for 125.00. It is a real shooter. There is a few on Gunbroker now.

It's a shame you have never fired it, but if you think they'd get some use out of it, that's a great way to pass along the tradition of shooting and hunting. I just saw one on GunsAmerica for $395 - not sure if that helps in your pricing or not.

That's the reason I suggest looking at closed auctions on the auction sites. For instance, within the past 30 days there have been 5 of these rifles offerred on Gunbroker at beginning bids of $249-299. Total number of bids received? Zero. Asking price is not value -- selling price is. Last month at a gunshow I saw a short-barrelled "trapper" version of one of these rifles. It was in pretty good shape, but the guy was asking $325 -- too rich, IMO. I offerred $225, and he got insulted... BUT, as I was leaving the show he saw me and offerred it to me for that price! Unfortunately, I'd already spent my nest egg for the day.

If this gun is minty, $225 is probably a fair price based on the market -- although I'll confess, that's pretty cheap for what is probably a darned nice shooter!

 

Pisgah, I appreciate that feedback more than you know - I've been looking at GunsAmerica, but I had thought that prices were by and large a little higher than they should have been. I saw that rifle for $395 and was thinking, "maybe for a bona fide Winchester, but..." So, $225-$250 would be about right?

 

Well, that's my opinion -- for what it's worth (2 cents?)! I base it upon a quick review of some closed auctions, plus the knowledge that decent post-1964 '94s can still be had around here for under $300. And, as stated before, the Sears marking generally will discount the price a bit. I'm assumiong, from your comments so far, you're looking for a fair price -- fair to you, fair to the buyer -- and I think it would fall in that range.

Yeah, I have seen some up and down pricing on these, and I have had time when I wanted to get it out and shoot it. I would always grab my Winchester instead so it never got fired. I'm sure I could get a better price from someone else, but I know how much fun he and his grandsons will have shooting it; without the fear of carrying around a high dollar rifle with kids. It looks like it should hold up well; it looks ever bit as much well built as my Winchester. I also have a Mossberg pump 20 gauge I believe he is going to buy also, so they should be set, as long as he can keep them from fighting over them. I'm doing some cleaning out of my safes to fund my ever growing custom Savage builds; if my wife sees me one more time cleaning the 22-250 I just built with love in my eyes she might divorce me for cheating (ha). The only difference between it and the Winchester is the name stamped on it -- it's a quality gun, just like the Glenfield, Wester Field, and other store-brand leveractions that are really the Marlin 336. The pleasure you'll get from seeing you friend and grandsons use it will be worth something, too!

 

I've seen two different Sears model 94's, I think the Ted Williams 100 is the nicer one. Mine has nice wood and a blued steel forend cap. It shoots very well and doesn't shift point of impact as it warms up, a rare quality in any rifle, especially a levergun.

 

Sears also carried a Model 54 (not to be confused with other Win model 54's) that was essentually a Win 94 but with slightly shorter than barrel mag tube and some stamped parts in the action. I bought one cheap and had it re-lined and chambered for .25-35. Not a high valued gun but a cheap (relative) way to get a good .25-35. I also have a Ted Williams Model 100 in 30-30. Again just like Win 94 with some price driven short cuts but very accurate.
