Winchester 94 Trigger Play

I have a new-to-me pre-64 Winchester 94 with what may be an internal problem.

Regardless of the hammer position, the trigger has about 1/4 inch of front-to-back play.

This doesn't feel normal to me - is it?

Is there anyone in the Northern Virginia area that is a qualified Winchester 'smith?

Thanks!

It's designed to have a lot of play in the trigger. It's a safety issue, it permits the trigger block safety to set properly. The trigger block safety is that little tab just behind the trigger that blocks the trigger until the lever is completely closed. The guys over on the Marlin Forum think it is a defect, they are not smart enough to know that all modern leverguns both Winchester and Marlin have the floppy trigger.
